On Monday, the Italian Cultural Institute in Cologne will open the exhibition “Vivere alla Ponti” (“Living Ponti’s Way: experiments of household living and architecture for homes and workplaces”). Molteni & C, one of the world’s most renowned interior design companies, together with the Ponti family, has decided to manufacture several projects of pieces furniture designed by the famous architect and never produced industrially. In fact, most of them were designed by Ponti (1891-1979) exclusively for his personal use. “Vivere alla Ponti” is an exhibition conceived to present Gio Ponti’s lifestyle through his works.
Following its debut in Milan and Venice, which took place concomitantly to the 2012 Biennale, the exhibition will be displayed at Cologne’s Italian Cultural Institute next week. The show will display replicas of the furniture produced by Gio Ponti and mostly crafted by hand, as well as other objects. At the opening, Francesca Molteni will deliver a lecture in English on Gio Ponti and the genesis of this new edition of the artist’s furniture and furnishings based on his designs. The lecture will follow the screening of a film by the title “Amare Gio Ponti” (“Loving Gio Ponti”), the first reconstruction of the life and story of the great 20th century master. The round table, moderated by Lucio Izzo, will also be attended by Salvatore Licitra and Paolo Tumminelli.
