Tunis – La Bottega Teatrale stages “Harlequin’s Hunger”

As part of the Nabeul International Festival for Kids’ Theatre, the Italian Cultural Institute in Tunis presents the performance “La fame di Arlecchino” (“Harlequin’s Hunger”) by theatre company La Bottega Teatrale. The performances will be held in the city of Nabeul’s Maison de Culture at 10 a.m. on Sunday, 8 January; at 3 p.m. on Monday, 9 January, at the Centre Culturel Néapolis and on Tuesday, 10 January at the Salle Maamoura. The play, written and directed by Giuseppe Cardascio in which he co-stars with Salvatore Varvaro, features all the characters of the Italian Commedia dell’Arte in a funny comedy. The play focuses on Harlequin, who is always starving and must try to come to terms with Pantalone, Pulcinella, Colombina, Brighella and Balanzone in order to fill his “pansa sempre voda” (“ever-empty belly”). One thing is sure however: he will manage to get repeatedly beaten with a cane, in the most classical puppetry tradition.
