“Youth and the Mediterranean: Exploring New Approaches to Dialogue and Cooperation”

The Farnesina hosts the Conference “Youth and the Mediterranean: Exploring New Approaches to Dialogue and Cooperation”, organised by the Institute of International Affairs (IAI) under the “New-Med Research Network” Programme and promoted by the Italian Chair of the OSCE’s “Mediterranean Contact Group”.

The Conference will open with remarks by Alessandro Azzoni, the Permanent Representative of Italy to the OSCE, Armando Barucco, the head of the Foreign Ministry’s Analysis, Planning and Historic and Diplomatic Documentation Unit, Ettore Greco, Director of the Institute of International Affairs, and Nicolò Russo Perez, coordinator of international affairs of the Compagnia di San Paolo.

Young researchers from the Mediterranean Countries and North Africa will present their studies – developed within the framework of the “New-Med Research Network” Programme – on new approaches to dialogue and cooperation within the MENA Countries.

The event will be divided into four sessions: the first will be dedicated to discussing the effects of climate change in the MENA region; the second session will deal with the issue of citizenship and the weakening of the government system. The two afternoon sessions will begin at 2 p.m. and will focus on the radicalisation and the threat posed by ISIS, and the migration and refugee crisis.
