The Italian Cultural Institute in Moscow will host a lecture by Vladimir Novikov entitled “Comparative analysis of Carlo Collodi’s ‘Pinocchio’ and Aleksei Tolstoy’s ‘The Adventures of Burattino’”, on February 8 at 7 p.m.
The two novels are indeed very different. In his version, Tolstoy adapted the original Italian story to the Russian culture by making it resonate with the taste of the Russian folk drama ‘Petruska’, and also setting it in the Soviet period.
Vladimir Novikov has a degree in Humanities and is a member of the Union of Russian Writers. Novikov has written 20 books and 200 articles on diverse topics of Russian and world culture, and is the Scientific Secretary of the ‘History’ section of the Central House of Scientists of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
