Norway – Oslo celebrates Sergio Leone with a film festival

Norway celebrates Sergio Leone: In cooperation with the Italian Cultural Institute and the University of Oslo, Cinemateket has organised two seminars and screenings of the director’s most famous films. The programme includes “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” on Wednesday, April 12, and “A Fistful of Dollars” on April 19. On the same day, “For a Few Dollars More” will be shown, and on Thursday, April 27, and  Sunday, April 30, “Duck, You Sucker!” will be screened. “Once Upon a Time in the West” will be screened on April 29 and 30. The programme began with “Once Upon a Time in America” on Sunday, March 19.
There will also be three talks, on April 28 and 29, by Roberto Donati, Kjell Runar Henssen and Helge Ranning. Jan Langlo, representing Cinemateket, said: “Sergio Leone’s films are, with no exceptions, all very brutal and bloody (…). Most of his characters are selfish and ruthless, and many are psychopathic and sadistic, but we can also find beauty, romance and music in his films, with images and soundtracks that give them an almost romantic and mythical quality. These moments are a true cinematic delight: ‘a sight for sore cinema eyes'”.
