Italy’s Economic Diplomacy 28 June: latest news from the world

Australia: The consortium in which Ghella is a partner wins a 1.9 billion dollar contract from Sydney Metro

The consortium comprising Ghella (with a 10% share) and Australian companies John Holland and CPB Contractors (with a 45% share each) won a contract worth 2.8 billion dollars (nearly 1.9 billion euros) for the construction of two 15.5-km parallel underground railway tunnels across Sydney Harbour.

The project also includes civil works envisaging the construction of six new metro stations which is part of the metro network’s 66-km extension along the North-Southwest axis promoted by Sydney Metro, a company owned by the Government of New South Wales.

The works are forecast to begin over the next couple of weeks and to be completed by mid-2021. In view of the technical difficulties raised by the project’s innovative and sustainable design and by the revolutionary impact it will have on Sydney’s urban mobility, the project is destined to become one of the most significant among all the infrastructure development plans launched in New South Wales, for which 73 billion dollars have been allocated over the next four-year period.
