Vinicio Capossela on tour in Bosnia-Herzegovina

The Italian singer-songwriter Vinicio Capossela will start touring Bosnia-Herzegovina at the beginning of the 6th edition of the Days of the Italian Culture in Bosnia-Herzegovina. He is due to open in Sarajevo on 16 September, and will continue on to Banja Luka on 18 September and Mostar on 20 September. Capossela will perform at the above cities’ national theatres at the invitation of the Italian Embassy.”It is not a coincidence,”said Ambassador Nicola Minasi,”since Capossela, an all-round artist, singer-songwriter, poet and writer, has always felt a special  closeness to the Balkans and to Bosnia in particular. Already in his first novel, “Non si muore tutte le mattine”, he talks also about Sarajevo after the war. His style and folk sound have many elements in common with the musical traditions of the Balkan area”.Therefore, Vinicio Capossela is the ideal artist to show how close the Italian and the Balkan musical traditions are and to emphasize that the pop music of these two areas belong to the same cultural and imaginary world. The tour will offer Vinicio Capossela the opportunity to promote his historical successes as well as his latest album, “Canzoni della Cupa”, which was recorded at two different times ten years apart from each other. It represents the essence of his artistic activity. At the heart of this album there is a tale of a folkloric, rural and mythological world made up of small villages from the Italian hinterland. It is a journey that starts from Irpinia (an area in the Campania Region), and goes across lands of mountains and forests that are similar to the lands of Bosnia-Herzegovina.The concert series, which the Italian Embassy has promoted, will take place in the country’s largest cities in addition to the capital Sarajevo in order to involve the whole country in this cultural initiative. The artist’s lyrics will be translated by the students of Italian Literature at the Universities of Sarajevo, Mostar and Banja Luka, and published in a booklet. The Italian Embassy believes this will allow the audience to fully enjoy and understand the meaning and depth of Capossela’s song as well as interact with him.
