Roberto Gatto, along with Alfonso Santimone and Pierpaolo Ranieri flew to Addis Ababa for the first stop on the ‘PerfecTrio African tour. The group performed a concert at the Italian Cultural Institute in the Ethiopian capital, having first held a workshop for students. Co-organisers of the event were the Institute and the Musica per Roma Foundation. Upcoming concerts will be held in Harare, Maputo, Johannesburg and Cape Town. One of the best-loved jazz drummers in Italy, Roberto Gatto, decided to call his band “PerfecTrio”, believing that 3 was the perfect number to have in the band. It would also give them complete freedom to explore any number of avenues in this musical genre. With the endlessly creative Alfonso Santimone on piano and Pierpaolo Ranieri skilfully experimenting on electric bass, PerfecTrio gracefully alternates between moments of high formal lyricism and more progressive live electronics, allowing spectators to fully taste the beauty and display of jazz improvisation.
