The “palazzo pyjamas” designed by Irene Galitzine worn by Claudia Cardinale in the “Pink Panther”, Anita Ekberg’s cassock gown in “La Dolce Vita”, the Prada dress in tulle worn by Cate Blanchett at the Oscars or the green “jungle dress” by Donatella Versace for Jennifer Lopez at the Grammy Awards have something in common: they show why Italian style is famous all over the world. They can now be seen at the “60 Years of Made in Italy” exhibition in Tashkent.
The opening was at the marvellous State Art Museum with ambassador, Andrea Bertozzi attending. It also provided the opportunity to celebrate 25 years of diplomatic relations between Italy and Uzbekistan. The exhibition was made possible by the support of our embassy as a “Made in Italy” promotion, and was curated by Galgano & Tota associati.
The clothes, which will be on display until 15 January, were all made using fine yarns and luxurious materials, and reflect the skill of Italian craftworkers and the influence of the visual arts and opera – another defining feature of Italy. The rustle of silk, the satin reflections, the sequins and the Swarovski crystals all play their part in illuminating this walk through time that celebrates the work of fashion icons such as Gattinoni, Armani, Fendi and Valentino among others. This myriad of styles converges to create the “Italian style” aesthetic, one which has managed to win over the world.
