Music from the Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi in Bratislava

The principal organist with the Upper Church in the Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi, Eugenio Becchetti will take centre stage in the eagerly awaited “Joyful Mystery” (“Mistero Gaudioso”) concert in Bratislava, in honour of Saint Francis.  Confirming the ongoing appeal of this great saint, the concert programme will range from classical music to pieces by more contemporary composers such as Pietro Yon (an Italian composer who emigrated to the United States and taught the young Cole Porter, one of jazz’s biggest stars), Gustav Merkel, Jehan Alain and others. Eugenio Becchetti will perform in the Franciscan Church – the oldest religious building in Bratislava – after playing in many countries around the world, and before Popes John Paul II, Benedict XVI and Francis. He has also recorded for prestigious record companies including Deutsche Grammofon Gmbh and the BBC.

The programme will include rare, original pieces from the musical resources of the Basilica of Saint Francis in Assisi.

The event was organised by the Italian Cultural Institute of Bratislava, with the support of the Italian Ambassador in Slovakia, S.E. Gabriele Meucci.

Programme: Giovanni Paisiello, Niccolò Zingarelli, Pietro Yon, Gustav Merkel, Pierre Edmond Lemaigre, Jehan Ala
