On Tuesday, 7 November, at Palazzo del Viminale, a signing ceremony was held for a new two-year Protocol to open humanitarian corridors from Lebanon and Morocco. This renews the first agreement, signed at the end of 2015, and confirms the continuation of a project which ensures the safe arrival to our country of 1,000 vulnerable migrants over two years.
The Protocol confirms cooperation between the Italian government and civil society in projects to integrate beneficiaries with the support of private parties and the direct involvement of local communities within the framework of activities promoted by the European Union to resettle refugees. Due to the nature of these projects, there are no additional direct costs for the Treasury.
The Protocol was signed by representatives of the Foreign and Interior Ministries and the Community of Sant’Egidio, the Federation of Evangelical Churches and “Tavola Valdese”. The Protocol was signed on behalf of the Farnesina by Envoy Luigi Maria Vignali, Director General for Italian Citizens Abroad and Migration Policies.
