”Mirrors” dance and music production on tour in Africa

Dance, music and video art combine to create “Mirrors”, a show produced by GRIOTmag and LIT, a cultural association, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
The show, to be presented in a preview at 7 p.m. on 21 May at the Teatro Centrale Preneste in Rome, will soon go on tour with stops in Addis Ababa, on 28 May, in Johannesburg, on 2 June, and in Dakar, on 8 June.

A multidisciplinary production comprising dance, video, music and singing, “Mirrors” represents a dialogue linking Italy to Africa and Africa to Italy. The show’s original music blends together echoes and sounds of Italian and African musical traditions: from the Sicilian ‘scacciapensieri’ (jaw harp) to the ancestral singing from Apulian traditions, from the percussions of the talking drums, djembe and Salento drums to underground music like the South African gqom.

The tour is part of “Italy, Cultures, Africa” integrated promotional programme developed by the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. “Mirrors”, along with other 200 initiatives organized by the network of embassies, consulates and Italian Cultural Institutes in Sub-Saharan Africa, aims to help Italian and African talents come together, thus stimulating mutual knowledge and understanding between cultures.
