Today, at the Farnesina, the 43rd Plenary Assembly of the General Council of Italians Abroad (CGIE) was opened by Minister Moavero in the capacity as President. The Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs, Sen. Riccardo Merlo, presented the Government report to the CGIE. The Assembly is scheduled to close on 5 July.
The CGIE is the advisory body to the Government and Parliament on major issues of interest for Italians abroad, presently amounting to more than 5 million.
The Plenary Assembly will address seven principal themes: 1) Information and Communication; 2) Security and social and health protection; 3) Civil, political and participation rights; 4) Language and culture; 5) Cultural and Economic Promotion of Italy abroad; 6) Standing Conference of State-Regions-Autonomous Provinces-CGIE; 7) New migrations and new generations.
