​’The Italian Language Week’ showcases the Italian used by Collodi, Ariosto and Fo

Pinocchio by Collodi, the ‘Mistero buffo’ by Dario Fo, and the works by Ludovico Ariosto will be staged around the world to celebrate the ‘ Italian Language Week’ promoted, as every year, by the Foreign Ministry and which, in the 2019 edition, is dedicated to Italian spoken on stage.  From 21 to 27 October, the Italian diplomatic and consular Network and Cultural Institutes will organise more than 1,000 events, meetings and performances in more than 110 Countries to showcase the wealth of our language, which is among the most studied in the world. The programme of events includes, for example: the Italian language’s linguistic evolution from the works of Ludovico Ariosto to those by Dario Fo, to be staged at the Italian Cultural Institute of Addis Ababa; the conference to disclose “the secrets of Traviata” at the Italian Embassy in Washington; the performance of “Mistero buffo” at the Italian Cultural Institute of Munich; the performance by pianist Paolo Restani in Stockholm and lastly, the traditional day dedicated to refresher courses in Tokyo, thanks to the cooperation of the Italian Cultural Institute and Reggio Children. Instead, in Rome, the international students of the University ‘Roma 3’ will read excerpts from plays and operas on the historical stage of the Palladium Theatre. The ‘Italian Language Week in the World’, now at its 19th edition, this year too is held under the High Patronage of the President of the Republic and is organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in partnership with the MIUR, the MiBACT, the RAI, the Accademia della Crusca, the General Council for Italians Abroad and the Dante Alighieri Society, in addition to the diplomatic and consular network of the Swiss Confederation.
