The third “World Italian Pizza Championship – China Selection” took place in Beijing on May 17. The event, organized by the Italian Cultural Institute in Beijing, saw the participation of 31 pizza makers from across China.
The award for best pizza, which this year was given to Beijing’s pizza maker Wang Chao, was decided by a jury composed, inter alia, of Counsellor Marco Lattanzi (Head of the Consular Office of the Italian Embassy in China), Davide Liberati and Alessandra Guidi (Embassy’s Agri-Food Attaché and Scientific Attaché, respectively), and Candido Mormile (Coordinator of the Food & Beverage Working Group of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in China).
The event, attended by an audience of approximately 800 people, was enriched by the participation of internationally renowned pizza makers such as Roberto De Santis and Nicola Sangiovanni. It was also an opportunity to promote Italian cuisine as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The top three winners of this third edition will be eligible to participate in the World Pizza Championship, which will be held in Parma, Italy, in 2027.
