PERU – TELESPAZIO WINS TENDER TO BRING INTERNET CONNECTIVITY TO THE COUNTRY’S AMAZONIAN REGIONS
Telespazio Argentina has won a contract worth approximately USD 20 million with Pronatel, the Peruvian national telecommunications programme of the Ministerio de Transportes y Comunicaciones. The contract is part of a project called “Conecta Selva” to bring satellite Internet connection to the primary schools and health facilities in the Amazonas, Loreto, Madre de Dios and Ucayali regions of the Amazon jungle. The project is one of the priority initiatives envisaged by the authorities to address the difficulties of Internet connection in remote areas of the jungle, mainly to promote education. At present, education in the country is almost exclusively provided as distance learning.
