Bulgaria – Investment of the Italian company Wegh Group in the railroad sector

The Italian company Wegh Group recently made a major investment in Bulgaria, acquiring 50% of the Bulgarian company Aquasys JsC, owner of Bulgarski Betonni Elementi, one of the foremost companies in the railway construction sector in that country, specialized in the production of elements in concrete and particularly rail ties.

WEGH Group is an Italian company specialized in the railroad sector with over 60 years’ experience. The group has 560 clients worldwide and 6 production plants in Italy and abroad, for a total turnover of about 35 million euro.  The Italian company decided to invest in Bulgaria in view of the potential for expansion of that market in the sector of railway construction, both in Bulgaria specifically and throughout the entire region. Railway connectivity in Bulgaria is extremely poor, in fact, and its improvement is one of the top priorities of the infrastructural investment plan promoted by the authorities of that country for the coming years.
