The Italian group, Danieli, has been selected by Nucor Corporation, a leading North American steel producer with a growing international presence, to build a new plant in Mason County, in the state of West Virginia. The order, for automation technology and machinery, is worth more than 650 million US dollars.
This is the most significant order in the steel sector for the last 20 years and is a recognition of Danieli Automation’s innovative technology, based on artificial intelligence.
The new Nucor mill will be completed by the end of 2024. It will use QSP-DUE hot-strip and cold-strip technology with fully automated processes and extremely high safety standards.
On 7 April the Nucor Group announced another important contract with Danieli. The companies will be working together to develop a mill in Lexington, North Carolina, using the Micromill Danieli (MI.DA) technology. This will bring the total value of the Danieli-Nucor collaboration to well over 750 million dollars.
The Danieli Group is also working on other orders in various US states. They include the modernisation of the Nucor Steel Gallatin plant in Kentucky, the first in the United States to use the QSP-DUE technology; the supply of technology and machinery to the Nucor Steel plant in Crawfordsville, Indiana; the development of the Pacific Steel Group plant in Mojave, California; and a plant for Commercial Metals Company in Mesa, Arizona.
