The Economic Office of the Italian Embassy in Paris has drawn up a report surveying the leading Italian businesses in France and French businesses in Italy – a valuable resource for all those interested in the economic, industrial and financial relations between Italy and France.
The report revealed two industrial and production systems strongly connected and integrated, characterised by ever increasing trade and significant mutual investments in the each other’s main areas of excellence.
France is Italy’s second largest trading partner globally, accounting for more than EUR 111 billion worth of trade in 2022.
France is also Italy’s number one foreign investor, with a portfolio of around EUR 87.4 billion in 2021 (22.2% of the total) and with more than 2,000 subsidiaries operating in Italy that employ around 290,000 people and generate more than EUR 110 billion in annual turnover.
With regard to Italian investments in France, with a portfolio of EUR 50.8 billion in 2022, Italy is the fifth largest foreign investor in France, behind the United States, Germany, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. There are approximately 1,800 Italian-controlled companies in France, employing 82,000 workers and generating EUR 50 billion per year in turnover.
