Webuild has been directly awarded the EUR 4.3 billion contract for the construction of a set of three dams in Trojena, about 50 km from the coast, at an altitude between 1,500 and 2,600 metres, for the construction of an artificial lake at the centre of a ski resort and mountain village that will host the Asian Winter Games in 2029.
The dams are intended to support a large freshwater basin over an area of 1.5 square kilometres. The engineering work is part of the Neom smart-city project, the most futuristic project under Vision 2030 designed to build a new settlement in a desert area of Saudi Arabia. The project will be developed in the Tabuk region at the north-western end of the country and near the Gulf of Aqaba.
This is also the context for the cooperation between Technogym, a company from Romagna specialising in the production of sports and leisure equipment, and Neom to align the entire urban concept of the smart-city under the banner of wellbeing and sustainability. The said cooperation is witnessed by the Neom Investment Fund’s acquisition of a 6% shareholding in Technogym last December, with an investment of EUR 111 million.
