The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Giulio Terzi, decided to recall for consultations in Rome the Italian ambassador in Damascus, Achille Amerio. The Italian embassy in Syria remains open and operational to guarantee assistance to the Italian citizens in the country and to monitor the evolution of the crisis in the country.
The decision of this morning is a follow up to the steps carried out by the Italian government in the last few hours. Yesterday the Secretary General of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Giampiero Massolo, expressed to the Syrian ambassador in Rome Khaddour Hasan the firm comdamnation and indignation of the Italian government for the inacceptable acts of violence committed by the Damascus regime towards civilians.
