“Today’s most serious attacks demonstrate that a real start to a Syrian-led political transition in Damascus, that responds to the legitimate and democratic aspirations of the Syrian people, has become a pressing and urgent need”. This was Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi’s comment on the news arriving from Damascus.
“Italy”, continued Terzi, “continues to give its full support to the ceasefire plan and the work of Kofi Annan. At the same time, however”, underscored the Foreign Minister, “this civil war scenario creates a need for the United Nations Security Council to assume its responsibilities in an urgent and effective manner”.
