Minister for Foreign Affairs Terzi met today at the foreign ministry in Rome with Deputy Minister for Border Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Zaw Win, in Rome to participate in the meeting of the World Food Program (WFP) Executive Board.
Minister Terzi extended Italy’s solidarity with the Burmese people affected by the recent earthquake. He also seized the opportunity to renew his encouragement to Minister Zaw Win for the continuing pursuit of the democratic reforms undertaken by the Burmese government, and his hopes for intensification of bilateral relations on both governmental and parliamentary levels, in line with the positive outcome of last week’s encounters between Prime Minister Mario Monti and President of the Republic Thein Sein, and between Minister Terzi and Interior Minister Ko ko.
Finally, Terzi underscored the Italian government’s intention to support Myanmar’s social and economic development through stronger bilateral trade relations and the promotion of development cooperation initiatives.
