Foreign Minister Emma Bonino received the news of the death of Senator Giulio Andreottiin London, where she is representing Italy at the International Conference on Somalia. Minister Bonino expressed her “condolences and sympathy for the family” of Senator Andreotti at this sad time.
“We have lost a key personality of Italian history, a man who marked an era with his personality”, declared Minister Bonino. She recalled that, in his years as Foreign Minister, Giulio Andreotti “made a high-profile contribution to Italy’s role in the world and, most notably, in Europe. He ensured, too, that our country had a leading role in the United Nations”.
