Annual meeting in Rome with Ambassadors of UNESCAP

Minister Bonino participated in the 3rd annual meeting in Rome with the ambassadors of the Asian country members of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP). Members of the group include the Mission Heads of China, Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Republic of Korea, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam.

The minister exchanged views with the ambassadors on Italy’s foreign policy in that region, and took the opportunity to reiterate the government’s intention to give new impetus to dialogue with area countries. She also assured full political and institutional continuity on all the main international challenges at global, regional and bilateral levels.

The economy also figured on the meeting’s agenda. Minister Bonino stressed Italy’s commitment to strengthening Italy’s economic and trade ties, and to fully seizing the business opportunities offered by development in a region that is becoming one of the principal drivers of globalisation and that accounts for a full 6 of the G20 Member States, with numerous emerging economies: both with a view to establishing Italian production facilities in that scenario, as well as to encouraging increased investments in our country.
