Farnesina: Pistelli in Uganda – opportunities for Italian firms
“Italy is one of Uganda’s historic and fundamental partners, and must continue to be that, especially in light of the country’s current phase of institution building and economic and social growth”. This was the statement by President of Uganda Museveni during a meeting with Deputy Minister Pistelli, who is on a visit there.
Other agenda items included current regional events and bilateral interests. Special attention was reserved for the situation in Somalia and prospects for that country’s stabilisation.
A subsequent meeting in Kampala with Ugandan Prime Minister Mbabazi more deeply examined political and economic cooperation. Decisions adopted included the arrangement of an Italian economic mission to Uganda in October, in which approximately 30 firms representative of Italian industry are expected to participate, thanks to the newly-established “Italian Business Club” in Uganda.
“Mbabazi announced his intention to make another working visit to Italy in the near future to personally verify the possibility of encouraging the further involvement of Italian firms, especially in high technology sectors”.
Uganda is the first stop on a journey that, in the coming days, will bring Deputy Minister Pistelli to Kenya and Djibouti.
