The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomes the political agreement reached by the European Commission and the Canadian Government on the content of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA). The political agreement crowns an intensive negotiating process that began at the Prague EU-Canada Summit in May 2009 and paves the way for the trade agreement itself to be signed in the near future.
The ratification and entry into force of the CETA will lead to a significant increase in economic-commercial opportunities between the European union, and Italy, with this important trans-Atlantic partner. Opportunities that will in turn enable participant countries to achieve the growth expected from the implementation of this significant agreement. The importance of the agreement was underscored by Prime Minister Enrico Letta and the Deputy Minister for Economic Development, Carlo Calenda, during their recent visits to Canada.
