Secretary of State Mario Giro has welcomed the signing of the pact paving the way to a resolution of the conflict in the Central African Republic. The Pact, signed today, 7 November 2013, was negotiated in Rome in September, with the mediation of the Community of sant’Egidio. The Central African Republic delegation was received on that occasion by Secretary of State Giro himself.
“The signing of this Pact is an important step because it commits all of the institutions to defend the framework of democracy and human rights. It envisages conflict prevention and management mechanisms that will come into operation immediately”, declared the Secretary of State. “I hope that this platform, which sanctions measures to combat corruption, and the rejection of armed conflict, will pave the way for continued discussion by the parties concerned”, he concluded.
