11 – 12 November, Under-Secretary Giro in Venezuela

Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs Mario Giro began an official visit to Venezuela shortly after the visit to Italy by President of the Republic Nicolás Maduro and Italian foreign minister Emma Bonino’s very cordial meeting in Rome with her Venezuelan counterpart Elías Jaua.
The under-secretary is scheduled to meet with: Foreign Minister Elìas Jaua, Deputy Foreign Minister for European Affairs Calixto Ortega, President of the Energy and Oil Commission MP Fernando Soto Rojas, President of the Standing Committee on Domestic Policy and of the Italo-Venezuelan Friendship Parliamentary Committee Elvis Amoroso and Minister for Economic Planning Jorge Giordani, who is also President of the Italo-Venezuelan Cooperation Council.
“Italy attributes major importance to relations with Venezuela, and is especially interested in the think tanks set up by that country, which has a great deal of influence in Latin America. Moreover, Venezuela and Italy share views on the United Nations”, Giro stated upon his arrival in Caracas.
“We are grateful to the Venezuelan authorities for their deep sense of humanity following the sad air incident at Los Roques, and the help they offered on that occasion”, Giro continued.
“We are hoping that Venezuela will send a large delegation to the 6th Italo-Latin America and Caribbean Conference, to be held in Rome on 12 and 13 December, not least as a sign of our two nations’ pro-active collaboration regarding the development of small and medium sized enterprises”, the under-secretary concluded.
