Italy has reiterated its firm commitment to go on working in close coordination with the Libyan authorities and the international community to support Libya’s stabilisation and democratic transition and stabilisation.
In this framework, a meeting of senior officials from 25 countries and 5 international organisations took place today (12 February) at the Farnesina to prepare the International Ministerial Conference on support for Libya scheduled to take place in Rome on 6 March 2014.
The meeting was chaired for Italy by the Director for Political Affairs, Ambassador Sandro De Bernardin, and for Libya by the Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Wafaa Boughaghis. Participants agreed on the need to keep the international community’s attention focused on Libya and confirmed their commitment to support the country’s democratic transition process.
The Libyans said that they understood the need to embark on a new constructive dialogue by all groups in the country and all the institutions to pave the way for the completion of this process. To this end, the meeting agreed on the importance of the Rome Conference taking place in the agreed timescale.
