Secretary General Michele Valensise received the Director General of Kosovo’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Albert Prenkaj, at the Farnesina today. Bilateral relations, the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina and Kosovo’s pathway to Europe were the main topics for discussion. Over the last few days Prenkaj has met several Foreign Ministry officials, with today’s cordial meeting bringing his visit to a close.
Ambassador Prenkaj thanked Italy for its support for Kosovo since the country’s independence and hoped to see relations become even closer through more frequent exchanges of visits. Valensise recalled Minister Bonino’s visit to Pristina in June 2013 and reiterated Italy’s priority interest in the stabilisation of the Balkans. And, in that framework, in strengthening Kosovo’s institutions and in its closer integration with Europe. These issues, he pointed out, will be the focus of the Italian Presidency of the European Union, starting on 1 July 2014.
