Foreign Minister Federica Mogherini welcomed the news of the release of the OSCE military inspectors in Ukraine. “It’s excellent news and, I hope, the first step in a de-escalation and the resumption of a dialogue that will lead to an immediate halt to the clashes”, she commented.
“It is urgent that all parties concerned fully implement the Geneva agreements, the elections take place on 15 May as envisaged and the government embarks on a constitutional reform that respects the territorial integrity of Ukraine and the diversity within the country”, reiterated the Minister. “The international community feels it has a duty to mediate, including through the presence of OSCE observers on the ground to perform a facilitation role. But it is up to the Ukrainians to find the pathway to peaceful co-existence. The violence of the last few days is taking us back to confrontations that modern history can no longer afford. And it clearly demonstrates that dialogue is the only option”, concluded Minister Mogherini.
