Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs Mario Giro is visiting Quebec to meet representatives of the local Italian community. He will also be taking part in a conference on the future of the Italian language in Canada, a country with about 1.5 million citizens of Italian origin.
Italian language-learning is increasing in Quebec thanks to a reorganisation of teaching courses and facilities, better coordination with the institutions involved and support from the private sector. “This is a success story that should inspire reflection on the overall rationalisation of our network for the promotion of the Italian language and culture. The goal is to ensure that the number of Italian courses integrated in Canadian schools increases”, declared Secretary of State Giro.
