Priests released: Mogherini “overjoyed” by the news

Foreign Minister Federica Mogherini has confirmed the news of the release of two Italian priests, Gianantonio Allegri e Giampaolo Marta, who were kidnapped on 5 April 2014 along with a Canadian nun from the Tchere mission in Maroua diocese, in northern Cameroon. Sister Gilberte Bussière was also freed. “I’m overjoyed. I wish first of all to thank the authorities in Cameroon and President Paul Biya for their efforts, and the Canadian government, with whom we were working closely”, commented Minister Mogherini.


“I’d also like to express my great satisfaction at the success of this brilliantly conductedoperation, thanks to the constant collaboration between our intelligence services and the Farnesina’s Crisis Unit”, she added.


Minister Mogherini has informed the Vatican authorities, with whom she has liaised closely since the kidnapping, of the priests’ release
