Under-Secretary Giro’s mission to Uruguay comes to an end

The mission to Uruguay by the Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mario Giro, came to an end yesterday evening, 2 March 2015. Under-Secretary Giro attended in the inauguration ceremony for the new President, Tabaré Vázquez. “We’re now working to revitalise Italian-Uruguayan relations, especially economic”, commented Giro.

During the inauguration ceremony the Under-Secretary also met the presidents of Chile, Bachelet; Ecuador, Correa; and Peru, Humala; as well as Raul Castro, of Cuba; the Mexican foreign minister, Meade; and the Vice President of Argentina, Boudou.

Giro also met the Italian-Uruguayan community, at the Casa degli Italiani, and assured them that the transformation of the consulate in Montevideo into a consular office will have no repercussions on the delivery of services. “As for the forthcoming ComItEs elections, the reason for the postponement to 17 April to was ensure that as many people as possible could take part, and to encourage the involvement of young Italian emigrants”, concluded the Under-Secretary.
