UN Human Rights Council concludes Universal Periodic Review of Italy

The Universal Periodic Review of Italy by the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva concluded today. Of the 186 recommendations formulated on 27 October 2014, Italy accepted 176, including 23 regarding the establishment of an independent national body for the promotion and defence of human rights, in line with the Paris Principles.

The Farnesina welcomed the opportunity of the Universal Periodic Universal Review to underscore the importance, among the other obligations undertaken by Italy, of the establishment of such a body, a goal on which Italy has been working for a long time in conjunction with the civil society, and in consideration of four parliamentary bills presented in this legislature
