Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty review conference: Della Vedova in New York

Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Benedetto Della Vedova will be in New York tomorrow for the 2015 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the NonProliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). Speaking at the conference, in its ninth edition since the treaty’s entry into effect in 1970, the under-secretary will reiterate Italy’s commitment to reaching consensus on a final document capable of strengthening implementation of the three pilasters of the NPT: non-proliferation, disarmament and the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

In the margins of the conference, Della Vedova and Assistant Secretary-General for Field Support of the United Nations Anthony Brambury will sign a protocol of amendment to the agreement between Italy and the UN on the UN Logistical Base in Brindisi that will take into account the base’s expanded role as a United Nations Global Services Centre.
