Italian Simona Lanzoni has been elected as one of the first 10 members of the Group of Experts on Action against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (GREVIO) under the Istanbul Convention. The election took place today, 4 May 2015, in Strasbourg. GREVIO’s role is to verify the implementation of the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (Istanbul Convention), which Italy ratified in June 2013.
The Istanbul Convention is the first legally binding international instrument to create a legislative framework providing protection against all forms of violence against women.
Italy has been a strong supporter of the adoption of the Istanbul Convention and its entry into force, including by promoting its ratification by other member states of the Council of Europe.
