The Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Vincenzo Amendola, is in London today with a two-day agenda of meetings.
Last night Mr Amendola attended an event at the London School of Economics (LSE) entitled “The role of the Italian Community in the UK”, promoted by representatives of the Italian community and organised by the LSE’s Italian Society and the Italian Embassy in London. Italian Ambassador Pasquale Terracciano contributed to the debate, which was attended by more than 200 Italian students, teachers and workers.
The debate focused on the role of the Italian Community in the UK and the possible scenarios opened to Italian residents after the Brexit Referendum of last 23 June.
Mr Amendola emphasised that the Italian Government will continue to support the Italians residing in the United Kingdom in upholding their rights against possible discriminations and penalisations deriving from the UK’s exit from the European Union.
Tomorrow, on the Undersecretary’s agenda of meetings with the Italian Community, Mr Amendola will meet with representatives of the CGIE (Consiglio Generale degli Italiani all’Estero – General Council of Italians Abroad), the Presidents of the Comites (Committees of Italians Residing Abroad) of London and Manchester representative of InCE.
Lastly, Mr Amendola will meet with the UK’s Special Envoy for Libya, Jonathan Powell, with whom he will discuss the present situation and the future prospects of the North African Country.
