The Farnesina welcomes the announcement made by the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Ismail Ould Cheick Ahmed, of an agreement for the cessation of hostilities between warring factions in Yemen.Italy has been following closely the evolution of the situation on the ground and is committed to promoting the beginning of a truce and its consolidation, with a view to supporting UN-facilitated talks.
It is only through a negotiated solution that today’s crisis in Yemen can be resolved, allowing the Country to go back on a path towards peaceful coexistence and development. Yemen’s current crisis is characterized by an unacceptable escalation of attacks targeting civilians and a deterioration of its peoples’ humanitarian conditions.
