“Also in 2017 we will not fail giving our support to the victims of the conflict in Syria. The Italian Government has allocated 25 million euros to finance humanitarian activities in the Country and in the region,” said Angelino Alfano, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. He continued: “It is our wish and duty to save human lives and this is the message that I conveyed to the United Nations Special Envoy, Staffan de Mistura.”
Minister Alfano recalled that since the beginning of the conflict, the Italian Cooperation service has appropriated a contribution of 120 million euros to the Syrian crisis through actions to assist internally displaced persons and to support the Countries hosting refugees, especially Lebanon and Jordan.
At the Donor Conference held in London on 4 February 2016, Italy pledged to appropriate a financial contribution of 400 million dollars for the 2016-2018 three-year period, 150 million of which will be earmarked for humanitarian projects and to support the reconstruction and the development of neighbouring Countries.
