Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, and his Libyan counterpart, Mohamed Taha Siala, held a telephone conversation this afternoon during which they confirmed the importance Rome and Tripoli have attached to the swift conclusion of a bilateral Memorandum on Illegal Immigration and Human Trafficking. Minister Siala, who asked for a telephone conversation with Minister Alfano, pointed out in particular the opportunity for a swift finalisation of the negotiations and confirmed the commitment of Libya, underlining that the question of migrant trafficking is a problem that concerns both countries. “It would be an excellent opportunity for Libya to prove its determination to cooperate on this issue which is crucial for Europe,” said Minister Alfano, also pointing out that “this agreement is a priority for Italy.”
