Minister Alfano is on a mission in the capital of Belgium to participate in the dinner for Foreign Affairs and Defence Ministers of the European People’s Parties Group, a traditional opportunity to exchange opinions on the latest developments in foreign policy.
Minister Alfano takes part in the Foreign Affairs Council with a joint session of the Foreign Affairs and Defence Ministers focusing on the different lines of action that the European External Action Service, the European Commission and the EU Member States are working on, within the framework of the EU Global Strategy Implementation Plan on Security and Defence.
The working lunch is dedicated to Egypt and is attended by Egyptian Foreign Minister Shoukri who participates in a broad debate on bilateral and regional issues, as well as on civil society matters and human rights.
The afternoon session in the same format is dedicated to migration, with the debate focusing on the flows along the central Mediterranean route, the implementation of the Malta Declaration of last February 3 and a report on the progress made in the Framework Partnership of last March 2.
The topics on the agenda include evaluating the role of the European Union in the Western Balkans and the Middle East Peace Process, also in the light of the developments occurred in the last few weeks.
