Minister Alfano on the “UNESCO Resolution on Occupied Palestine”

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said: “I have given precise voting instructions to the Permanent Delegate of Italy to UNESCO: [that is] to vote ‘no’ against yet another politicised resolution on Jerusalem, which is taking place on the day of a national holiday in Israel. Our opinion is clear: UNESCO cannot become the place for a permanent ideological confrontation, to discuss questions that should be solved in other fora. Consistently with what we stated in the past month of October, we will vote against the resolution, hoping that this clear sign may be properly understood by UNESCO.”
