Minister Alfano on a diplomatic mission to Brazil

“Brazil is a large Country that combines great opportunities in many sectors with the creativity and passion for life of its people. The political message that I would like to convey therefore is to pursue a strong partnership on all the complex global issues: at political, economic and socio-cultural level. Because Brazil, for us, is a strategic partner,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, during his visit to Sao Paulo, the first stop in a trip that will bring him to Brasilia, Belo Horizonte (where he will inaugurate the new offices of the Italian Consulate) and Rio de Janeiro.

In Brasilia, Minister Alfano is scheduled to meet the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Justice, the Minister of Economic Planning and the Minister of Defence.

The talks will focus on bilateral relations, with special attention on the prospects of a stable institutional dialogue and on economic and commercial relations, especially on the presence of Italian businesses in Brazil, the value of trade volumes and the opportunities offered by the Country. With respect to regional issues, talks will focus on the situation in Venezuela and on the EU-Mercosur agreement, while at global level, the focus will be on the United Nations, Italy’s Chairmanship of the OSCE and Brazil’s candidacy to the OECD.
