“We are deeply concerned about the latest developments in the Maldives. The news about the declaration of the State of Emergency is alarming. We expect local authorities to fully comply with the Supreme Court’s ruling, and refrain from doing something that could jeopardize the stability and security of the Country. We also expect them to respect citizens’ rights and ensure the full functioning of the Parliament by restoring the complete functioning of their democratic institutions, in line with the Constitution.”
