The initial inquiries made following the latest report by “Le Iene” TV show, which aired on 11 March, on voting abroad would indicate that about half of our fellow Italians interviewed did not have the right to receive the ballot package since they had not completed the registration process on the Registry of Italians Residing Abroad. The ballot papers were not sent in these cases, in compliance with existing laws. One voter, who was interviewed in Sweden by a reporter of the above-mentioned show, was actually sent his ballot package and upon his request, a duplicate was again sent for him to exercise his right to vote. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation reaffirms that the TV report represented fake news and reported it to the relevant authorities.
As for the nature of the statements made by the Italian national interviewed in Fortaleza, Brazil, the Farnesina reserves the right to take legal action in order to protect its image.
