The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, will attend the G7 Foreign Ministers Meeting (Ministerial Meeting on Foreign Affairs) that will be held in Toronto on Sunday, 22 and Monday, 23 of April. The current major international issues on the agenda include: Syria, Iraq, Iran, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, North Korea, Myanmar, and Venezuela. Several sessions are scheduled on reforming the UN, maritime security, issues of cybersecurity, combating terrorism and violent extremism. An “outreach” session, attended by women foreign ministers of the G7 Countries, will be dedicated to gender equality and women’s empowerment, with a special focus on Women, Peace and Security. The sessions on North Africa and the Mediterranean and on Human Mobility will open with a presentation by Minister Alfano.
The joint closing session, also including Interior and/or Security Ministers, will focus on strengthening democracy against Russia’s external interference and on managing returning foreign fighters from theatres of war.
