Press Note by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Emanuela Del Re, met at the Farnesina the Executive Director of UNICEF (United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund), Henrietta Fore, who is in Italy for the UNICEF International Council held in Florence last 12-13 November at the UNICEF ‘Innocenti’ Research Centre.

The Deputy Foreign Minister underscored that Italy intends to enhance its cooperation with UNICEF. She expressed special appreciation for UNICEF’s active role in implementing the reform of the UN System promoted by Secretary-General Guterres, which Italy fully supports.

Executive Director Fore acknowledged Italy’s long-standing commitment to supporting the United Nations Children Fund, ranking Italy 15th among the public contributors to the regular resources of the Fund. She went on to illustrate the “Generation Unlimited” youth programme promoted by UNICEF which aims to assure that every young woman or man in the world be active studying or working by 2030.

Deputy Minister Del Re confirmed Italy’s support for the initiative, emphasising that young people and adolescents represent a priority for our Development Cooperation Service, which is therefore favourable to any possible form of cooperation in this respect.
