Italians abroad who want to use the online consular services through the ‘Fast it’ portal as of today can access them via their Digital Identity which is issued by the Public Digital Identity System, also known as SPID. Recently the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Agency for Digital Italy signed the Convention for the adoption of the SPID by the Public Administration.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has joined the list of administrations that allow citizens to access their portals through their SPID credentials to request the provision of services, starting with the online consular services. In the coming months, the initiative will also include other portals of the Farnesina that provide services, subject to registration by the users.

Italians abroad without a SPID identity who want to use any of the services offered by the FAST IT platform will have to register with the site. Those who already have an SPID identity can skip the registration and access the services by clicking on the button “SPID” on the homepage and by providing the relevant credentials.

Italians abroad can apply for a SPID identification to one of the listed Identity Providers by entering a mobile phone number, an e-mail address, a valid identity document and a document certifying the tax code (certificate issued by the Revenue Agency containing the tax code, endorsed by the Consular Office).

The procedures Italians abroad should follow to obtain their SPID credentials are specified (and constantly updated) on the website: https://www.spid.gov.it/FAC (under the heading “May also an Italian citizen residing abroad have SPID credentials? “)
